About the position

We are looking for a someone with a love and knowledge of music to facilitate our weekly Music group!

What we are looking for

Music group is a space where participants can express themselves through the joys of music! We’re looking for someone to lead the group in song, encourage people to participate, have fun and create a safe, respectful and inclusive space where everyone feels welcome.

The group is mostly held outdoors in the front courtyard of SHMs Grey St. Engagement Hub. The outdoor setting enables spontaneous participation from people who might not otherwise join a group.

Guitars, percussion instruments, a keyboard, and song books which are a curated collection of the group’s favourite songs, are all available.

As you will be working with participants you should have an understanding of the issues involved in poverty and homelessness and the capacity to work respectfully with a diverse range of participants.

This role is most suited to someone with a music therapy, community music or music teaching background and a knowledge of a broad range of musical genres.

  • Working with Children’s Check

An interview will need to be conducted in order to assess individuals suitability to the role.

About Sacred Heart Mission

Every day of the year, Sacred Heart Mission assists hundreds of people who are experiencing homelessness or disadvantage to find shelter, food, care and support. Through our wide-ranging homelessness services, research and innovation we strongly advocate for an inclusive, fair and compassionate community where people can overcome disadvantage and trauma.

About Sacred Heart Central

Sacred Heart Central  comprises several programs that provide an integrated service approach, and these are organised in three groups:

  1. Support Services, which provide: homelessness assistance (assertive engagement, crisis intervention, advocacy and support) through the Meeting Place & Duty Work, case management for people over 50 years, and specialist mental health responses
  2. Wellbeing Responses, activities, group work and therapies through the Wellness Place. Spiritual Care is also provided.
  3. Meals, which provides a daily breakfast and lunch service (an average of 300 meals a day, every day of the year).

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate a weekly music group for Hub clients
  • Assist with the development of suitable music resources for the group, eg. Song sheets
  • Provide a flexible group structure that enables people to make choices and participate at different levels
  • Report any participant complaints or issues of concern (participant behavior or duty of care issues) to WP Coordinator
  • Assist with set up and pack up after the session and ensure all equipment is accounted for

Commitment

Weekly from 10:30am – 1:30pm on Wednesdays. Please note music group runs from 11am – 1pm, we have allowed for additional time for set up and pack up.
