About the Position

This is a wonderful opportunity for a musical person who is confident with guitar, percussion, keyboard or vocals to support the Wellness Place team with our weekly music group which is based at the Grey St Engagement Hub.

What we are looking for

We’re looking for a confident volunteer who is able to lead the group in music-making, encourage participation and help make music fun. This opportunity could suit a retired musician or someone with a teaching, music therapy or community music background. The purpose of the group is to provide a welcoming and inclusive space where people can have fun and join with others through making music together.

About Sacred Heart Community

Aged Care Residential Services provide a mix of low and high care services to residents at the Mission’s aged care facility on Grey St. Residents have histories of homelessness and disadvantage, many with a range of complex needs, resulting from negative life experiences including exposure to trauma and social isolation. The residential care offer a range of creative activities such as art, drama, craft, knitting, music, creative writing and storytelling.

Responsibilities

  • Together with staff and other volunteers, to facilitate a music group for Hub participants.
  • Assist with the development of suitable music resources for the group, eg. song sheets
  • Assist with set up and pack up of instruments and equipment
  • Work with staff and other music group volunteers to create a flexible group structure that enables people to make choices and participate at different levels.

Commitment

One shift per fortnight. Shift times: Wed 10:30am – 1:30pm

Occasional additional shifts if available.
