Volunteering in our residential facility is a wonderful and engaging experience that directly supports people experiencing homelessness and social disadvantage.

Sacred Heart Mission is a local Melbourne charity focused on elevating disadvantage, social exclusion, and homelessness. Volunteering in our residential facility is a wonderful and engaging experience that directly support these goals and values, allowing for the support of those facing hardship to continue. Many residents have histories of experiencing homelessness or disadvantage, many with a range of complex needs, resulting from negative life experiences including the effects of poverty, exposure to trauma and social isolation, which necessitates a very different approach to service provision

-Regularly visit an isolated resident (that you are matched with) in an Aged Care Facility in one of the above listed suburbs

-Engage them in hobbies and activities which can range from reading the newspaper together through to making music or playing cards.

Please be aware that due to the isolation and age of some of the residents that their mental capacity can be quite varied. However we try to match people with common or similar interests and there will be support through the volunteers office team as well as the lifestyle coordinator.
