We are thrilled to share that our community table, our Dining Hall, is back open! More than two years and 250K+ takeaway meals later, your generous and continued support has made it possible to open our doors.

At Sacred Heart Mission, a visit to our Dining Hall is more than just a meal – it’s a welcome, a community and the start of a new chapter for people experiencing homelessness. Being able to offer a seated service again also means we can increase the support options we provide for people who access the Dining Hall.

"I love it here"

Our clients are so happy to be back, to have a place of welcome and acceptance. David* says, “this is how St Kilda is meant to be. I’ve really missed this place“.

Another client, Victor*, says: “This place is beautiful. I love it here and I’m glad it’s back.”

For the first sit down lunch, clients enjoyed vegetable soup, roast chicken or vegetarian bolognese and banana cake with ice cream. Dining Hall client Susan* says, “having the Dining Hall makes my day”.

The positive energy of our volunteers was critical

Chris Middendorp, the Manager at Sacred Heart Central, says he is so thankful to our supporters for their goodwill and sustained support over these last few years.

“We are particularly grateful to all our volunteers who continued to support us during these trying times.

Their positive energy was critical during those difficult days and allowed us to provide 250,000+ nutritious takeaway meals over two years, when many other services were closed.”

While we scale up our services, the Dining Hall will be open Monday to Friday for a sit-down service, breakfast and lunch. We will continue to provide takeaway on weekends and public holidays.
