Our op shops change lives

Have you ever shopped at one of Sacred Heart Mission’s 12 op shops across Melbourne?

If so, you’ve directly contributed to helping fund the life-changing programs and services we deliver to support people experiencing homelessness or living in poverty.

Every $8 provide two nutritious meals

Our op shops play a critical role in raising awareness and revenue to help us continue our important work. For example, when you spend just $8 at one of our op shops you are directly funding the provision of two free, three-course meals to someone who really needs them.

Op shops have been an important part of the Mission’s history over the years. Way back in 1985, two years after the Mission opened his doors to people in need, we took over an op shop in Carlisle Street, St Kilda, from the Society of St Vincent de Paul.

A second op shop opened in Grey Street a year later, and from then on Sacred Heart Mission op shops began to pop up all over Melbourne.

By the late 1990s they had become an important way to help people experiencing disadvantage buy the things they needed at low cost and also a critical source of income to support the work of the Mission.

More than 30 years later, our string of high quality op shops contribute more than 30 per cent of our annual revenue. This allows Sacred Heart Mission to remain a strong and sustainable organisation with a diverse income base and gives us flexibility in how we spend our money on services.

We'd love your help

We couldn’t run our op shops without our dedicated team of volunteers. If you have a few hours to spare each week on an ongoing basis, we’d love your help - and we know you’d enjoy being part of our fantastic team!

You can also donate your good-quality unwanted clothes and household goods directly to one of our op shops.

Sacred Heart Mission respectfully acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we operate our services. We pay our respects to the ongoing living cultures of Aboriginal peoples, and to Elders past, present and future.
