We offer a range of volunteering opportunities across Sacred Heart Mission and welcome your skills and talents. Share your knowledge and have fun whilst helping others. View our volunteering vacancies here.

Our op shops

Our op shops provide great opportunities for volunteers to use or develop their customer service and retail skills, while helping to raise funds for our services. Open seven days a week, our op shops need an on-going commitment from volunteers to assist with selling as well as stock replenishment.

Skilled volunteering

Drawing on professional skills in the community through skilled volunteering assists us to maintain and grow our high standard of service to our clients.

We are fortunate to have a number of skilled volunteers who assist with project-specific tasks, and programs such as Kick Start (Health and Wellbeing program) and our Hands on Health Clinic.

Many of our skilled volunteers come from our corporate volunteering partners, who offer their time and expertise in strategy, program analysis and training. Their support adds depth and cutting-edge knowledge to our programs, assisting us to achieve many of our key strategic objectives.

Meals program - Sacred Heart Central and Women’s House

Our Meals Program located in our main Dining Hall, is open 365 days a year and provides much needed nutrition and support to disadvantaged members of our community. As a volunteer, you can work in our fully equipped commercial kitchen to help our chefs prepare and serve over 400 meals (breakfast and lunch) each day.

We also have volunteering opportunities at our Women’s House, helping to prepare and serve meals to women experiencing hardship. Women’s House operates Monday to Friday, 8.30am-1pm.

We welcome younger volunteers in our Meals program, but for safety reasons cannot accept volunteers under 15 years of age. Please see our schools volunteering page if under 18 years of age.

Sacred Heart Community and Rooming House Plus Program

Our Sacred Heart Community and Rooming House Plus Program offer residents community activities to participate in, which volunteers can help organise. Volunteers can assist with art, sporting and leisure activities, attend the weekly residents barbecue or simply provide companionship and conversation to our residents.

Community visitor volunteers get to know residents through fortnightly visits that may include going for a walk, having a coffee, sharing music, reading a book, or just simply having a chat. A friendly face plays a vital role in enriching the lives of the residents who might otherwise feel isolated from the community.

The Wellbeing and Activities program

Volunteering in our Wellbeing and Activities program is perfect for those passionate about sports, yoga, gym sessions, the arts and general wellbeing. Volunteers can utilise their skills and provide a pathway for disadvantaged and marginalised community members to improve their health and wellbeing, increase social participation and build self-confidence.

Hands on Health Clinic

Sacred Heart Mission welcomes the assistance of professional practitioners who volunteer their time to provide a range of health and complementary services through our Hands on Health Clinic, including massage, physiotherapy, dental checks, counselling and more.

Reception/ administration/ events/ fundraising

Throughout the year we require the support of volunteers in areas such as Fundraising, Business Services, Business Development, Project Management and IT, to name a few. We also welcome the ongoing support of administrators and receptionists to assist Sacred Heart Central, our Hands on Health Clinic and Sacred Heart Community

Five Minute Volunteer program

Like to help out by volunteering but only have ‘five minutes’ spare in your busy lifestyle? Sacred Heart Mission has developed an exciting new volunteer scheme supporting our Sacred Heart Local clients who have age-related conditions and often live alone. Many of our clients need help with minor, everyday tasks such as fitting a light bulb, putting out their rubbish bin, watering plants and or just have someone checking in on them on a hot day.

If this sounds like you and you live in the Port Phillip area, contact the Sacred Heart Local team on  (03) 8534 4110.
