The streets of St Kilda were bursting with colour, music and cheering crowds last Sunday for Midsumma Pride March, and right in the middle of it all were more than 60 Sacred Heart Mission staff, volunteers, friends and family.
With our red SHM hats, hand-crafted heart signs and banners, we made sure everyone knew we were there. Spectators cheered us on and we heard plenty of “Love you, Sacred Heart” and “Happy Pride, Sacred Heart!” along the way.
Pride March isn’t just a party. It’s a celebration of the Rainbow community’s joy, diversity and strength, built on hard-won advocacy and activism. Showing up matters – it’s a bold act of solidarity and care, and reflects our values of Welcome and Community. That’s why it was terrific to see so many of us there, walking together and showing heart.
We had a bit of a wait at the oval before the march began, but the conditions were perfect for marching: comfortable 20 degrees, mostly cloudy skies and a fresh breeze to keep us moving.
At the finish line, the fundraising team greeted everyone with a picnic of nibbles, giving us a chance to relax, chat and soak up the celebratory atmosphere.
