As CEO of Sacred Heart Mission, I would like to congratulate Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Labor Party on their re-election for a second term following the Federal election on 3 May 2025.

The values Prime Minister Albanese spoke to in his speech – kindness, equality, unity – really stood out to me. They speak directly to what guides us here at Sacred Heart Mission. These values shape how we work, how we advocate and how we show up for each other and the people we support.

During the campaign period, it was powerful to hear the range of reflections people shared about what this result might mean for the communities Sacred Heart Mission works with; what it says about the kind of leadership people want to see. There was a shared hope that the government will move forward with greater confidence and resolve, especially on issues that matter deeply to us, including First Nations self-determination, social housing, income support, health care and climate action.

It was also meaningful to hear the Prime Minister Acknowledge Country and express the need to close the gap between our First Nations people and the wider community. I am hopeful that this sentiment is acted on, and real progress is made over the upcoming term of government.

As we await the final results for the election of Senators, Sacred Heart Mission looks forward to working with newly elected members and re-elected members of the Senate from Victoria. We would also like to congratulate Josh Burns, Member for Macnamara on his reelection, and his support of Sacred Heart Mission since entering Parliament in 2019.

At Sacred Heart Mission, we believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home. We look forward to working with the Albanese government on ending homelessness, deep disadvantage and social exclusion by building people’s capacity and promoting fairer and more inclusive communities and service systems.
