Sacred Heart Mission is committed to protecting the privacy of all who use this website and our services. We follow the state and federal laws on how we, collect, hold, use and destroy your personal information.

This Privacy Statement applies to personal information about our clients, carers, volunteers, staff, students, contractors, consultants, supporters, job applicants and members of the public.

What information do we collect?

The information we collect and hold will depend on the service we provide to you and our legislative and funding obligations.

Collected information can include your name, age, address, date of birth, phone number, email address, bank account or credit card details, next of kin details, cultural identity, gender identity, and images.

Additional information may be required in line with our employment screening procedure.

If you are a visitor, contractor, or supplier, we may also collect information from you.

Sacred Heart Mission may not be able to provide the service or support you need if you choose not to provide information or provide the wrong information.

Sometimes we get information without asking for it. If this happens, we will destroy or de-identify the information unless we need it for our service.

How do we collect your information?

We will collect your information directly from you, or from someone who refers you to us. Information is collected when you attend or visit, use our website, email or phone us.

We will ask for your permission (consent) before we collect information.

Where relevant, we will provide you with a Collection Notice that provides you with a short summary of the data being collected and the purposes for which it is being collected.

You can give your permission in writing or verbally over the phone.

We will only ask for the information we need related to the service you want.

How do we use your information?

Sacred Heart Mission may not be able to engage with you without your personal information. For example, we may not be able to contact you, provide services, issue receipts or offer employment to you.

For prospective volunteers, contractors, students or employees:

For supporter and donors:

  • to contact you about Sacred Heart Mission, our activities and to provide our newsletters, reports, invitations and requests for support, unless you opt out or we are prohibited by law
  • to communicate with you about donations, products, services, campaigns, causes and events
  • to process and record donations.

We may also provide your contact details to other like-minded organisations and to third parties to contact you with information that may be of interest to you. From time to time, we participate in data collectives where we share your ‘de-identified’ personal information (other than sensitive information) with other organisations.

We have no way of protecting that information until it reaches us. Once we receive your personal information, we take reasonable steps to protect its security.

Any contact you receive requesting full credit card details, including your CVV number, should be considered a hoax and reported to scamwatch.gov.au.

The Website may contain links to other sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or policies of those sites.

Credit Card Transactions

If applicable, credit card transactions may incur service fees on certain services such as declined transactions or cancellation fees. If so, charges will be advised to you. Sacred Heart Mission accepts no responsibility for any breaches of security or misrepresentation in relation to credit card transactions.

Before entering into a transaction, the onus is on you to check carefully whether any cancellation fee or charges applies, and/or you are bound by any Sacred Heart Mission refund policy.

Email Addresses

Email addresses provided via this site will be used to respond to specific user queries. Your email address will not be disclosed to any other party without your knowledge and consent and as intended, unless required by law.

Subscriptions

This internet site provides the facility for users to subscribe to our supporter newsletter. To subscribe to this, service users must provide a valid address.

Sacred Heart Mission follows the Australian Privacy Principles and the Victorian Information Privacy Principles. Be assured your details remain confidential and are not supplied to other organisations.

How do we store your personal information?

Irrespective of whether personal information is stored electronically or in hard copy form, we are compliant with all data security legislation and standards to protect the personal information we hold from misuse and loss and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

How do I access or update my personal information?

If at any time you wish to view or alter your personal information, please contact the Sacred Heart Mission Privacy Officer. We ask that you provide us with as much detail as you can about the particular information you seek, in order to help us retrieve it.

An access fee may be charged where permitted by law.

In certain circumstances, we may not be required by law to provide you with access or to correct your personal information. If that is the case, we will give you our reasons for that decision.
