What it means when you give to Women’s Services

In June, we asked our supporters for help to keep our Women’s Services running.

You all responded with such generosity. And ever since, I’ve been trying to find the right way to show you what it means.

So I opened the little feedback book we keep at Homefront, our crisis accommodation service for women. What’s written in there says much more than I ever could.

“On my first night here, I slept soundly for the first time in years because I felt safe.”

“I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, being at Homefront. But then I realised the staff actually cared.”

“When I got to Homefront, I felt safe. I felt like I was given a slap in the butt to get working, and to get going. And I did. And now I have joy.”

“Well look at me! I have a job booking bands and DJs at a little bar in Melbourne. I’m doing fantastic and I love my new life so much. Homefront will always be in my heart. Thank you so much!”

“I don’t have words, because it will take too many to share my appreciation. So I wanted to say just two: Thank You.”

So yes, I could write for ages about non-judgemental support, access to services, social inclusion and other reporting outcomes … but it all comes down to what’s in these notes.

Safety. Caring. Heart. Joy.

That’s what you made possible when you gave to our Tax Appeal. And no words from me can ever thank you enough.
