About the position

Are you an avid gardener? Looking to give back to the community? Our Women’s House is in need of a volunteer gardener to care for and manage their vegetable garden!

What we are looking for

We are looking for a someone who can take on the challenge of caring for and managing our garden at our Women’s House!

As is is women (Cis or Trans) safe space this position is open strictly to female and female identifying applicants only.

As you may be working with clients you should have an understanding of the issues involved in poverty and homelessness and the capacity to work respectfully with a diverse range of participants.

Experience and a love for gardening is highly desirable. Prior volunteer experience is also desirable.

An interview will need to be conducted in order to assess individuals suitability to the role.

About Sacred Heart Mission

Every day of the year, Sacred Heart Mission assists hundreds of people who are experiencing homelessness or disadvantage to find shelter, food, care and support. Through our wide-ranging homelessness services, research and innovation we strongly advocate for an inclusive, fair and compassionate community where people can overcome disadvantage and trauma.

About the Women’s House

The Women’s House in St Kilda is a welcoming, safe and supportive Engagement Hub tailored to the needs of all Women (Cis and Trans) who are experiencing homelessness, financial hardship or barriers to social inclusion and participation.

We strongly welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and people from the LGBTIQA+ community who may have a gender diverse experience. We are committed to providing a culturally safe and inclusive space for everyone who visits the Women’s House.


  • To tend to the vegetable garden
  • To facilitate gardening with Women’s House service users
  • To encourage an environment that welcomes clients and builds community within the Women’s House.


Weekly on Wednesday’s, 11am – 1pm
