Chapel street, Windsor now becomes Chapel Street, Prahran

Sacred Heart Mission op shop - volunteers

17 September 2019

After 15 years at 86 Chapel Street Sacred Heart Mission’s Windsor op shop, well known for its furniture and vibrant window displays, is relocating to further down the road.

Moving into a brighter and better space, which was once the American Apparel store, the magnificent building will be transformed into one of the Mission’s 12 modern op shops.

Store Coordinator Trish Williams, who has worked for the Mission for 12 years, says the space has been designed to cater to both recycled fashion lovers and collectors of antiques, bric-a-brac and furniture.

“After renovating the space over the last few months, the op shop now boasts great lighting, two huge window displays and will be packed to the brim with donated goods,” Trish says.

“The building is amazing and we are thrilled with the space.”

For the past six years, the Windsor store has held annual ‘auction’ events to promote the store and Sacred Heart Mission.
Two years ago we hosted this auction at the Prahran Town Hall, while last year’s event was the first of its kind with a ‘non-auction’ event which was a grand sale and saw people lining up to enter down Chapel Street. Of course, this tradition will continue in the new space.

“Op shop lovers and avid collectors have since marked the Chapel Street store events in their calendars each year,” Trish says.

“Moving to Prahran means increased foot traffic for the store, better parking spaces at the rear of the shop for donation drop offs, improved customer parking and a more localised shopping experience.

The Windsor store will stock art, jewelry, collectables, vinyl, musical instruments, antiques, designer clothing and an array of interesting furniture from modern to retro.

Continuing in Sacred Heart Mission tradition, the public and our loyal op shop supporters will be treated to a grand opening event. The local community and fellow retailers are invited to visit us for the grand opening at 6pm on Thursday, 10 October with drinks and nibbles we promise you won’t walk away empty handed.
