Dee had a tough childhood, and faced mental health challenges throughout her life. Sadly, this is not uncommon, and repeated trauma can have a huge impact on a person's wellbeing.

“We stayed with Dad who was an alcoholic and abusive. I was probably suffering from depression when I was 12 or 13 years old. Life was really difficult with mum gone.”

Dee was married and working at 21, but with an undiagnosed mental illness, her marriage broke down and she lost custody of her two sons. Dee said she felt very isolated, and eventually, found herself without a home.

“I had schizophrenia and now had nowhere to go. It was then that it hit me - I was homeless.

Homelessness is incredibly complex. There is no quick fix, and lasting change does not happen overnight. But you can trust us to be there, day after day, for people like Dee as they get tailored long-term support to take back control of their lives.

Give before 30 June to help people like Dee overcome disadvantage.
