Ask me anything - Facebook Live Chat

During Anti-Poverty Week 2018, we'll be hosting a Facebook Live Chat with a focus on debunking the common myths about poverty and homelessness.

Join us on Friday, 19 October from 12:00pm to 12:30pm on Facebook to chat about

  • what it’s like to experience poverty and homelessness
  • what it takes to get job ready, and
  • how we can support people to get back on their feet.

We will be joined by Jessica Pope, our J2SI workforce participation worker, and Christine Thirkell, graduate of CHP’s Peer Education Support Program.

Anti-Poverty Week 2018

Anti-Poverty Week (14-20 October 2018) is a time to shine a light on the causes and consequences of poverty and to reflect on how we can support people experiencing chronic disadvantage to move out of the cycle of poverty and homelessness.

With initiatives like our volunteering program Outlandish and our Journey to Social Inclusion Program (J2SI), we can support people to regain their independence and reenter the workforce.

While work can be done at the individual level, we also need to call on Government to implement policies providing affordable housing and adequate financial support through Newstart Allowance and Commonwealth Rent Assist to address the rise of poverty and homelessness in our community.
