Dine with Heart FAQs

Find out how you can get involved with Dine with Heart

Dine with Heart is a month-long fundraising campaign supporting Sacred Heart Mission’s Dining Hall. It involves an incredible community of people hosting events to raise vital funds for our Dining Hall. Restaurants, cafes, bars and their diners, along with workplaces, schools and households across Melbourne get involved to help fund the Dining Hall, which provides free breakfast and lunch, 365 days a year, to people experiencing homelessness.

This year alone, we need to raise $730,000 to keep our Dining Hall open. Every $4 you donate will provide people, who visit our Dining Hall, with a nutritious meal and will connect them to support. Every day, we serve up to 400 meals, 365 days a year, to people in need in our community.

Every $4 you donate will provide people, who visit our Dining Hall, with a nutritious meal and will connect them to support.

You can:

  • Dine with Heart @ Home. Your way. Through May.
  • Create an event @ Work or @ School and get together, over food, with your colleagues or classmates in support of people experiencing homelessness.
  • If you are a café, restaurant or food or wine-related business, get involved or help support the campaign your way.

If you’d like to get involved with Dine with Heart month in some way, we’d love to hear from you. Email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

This is our second year of running Dine with Heart @ Home, @ Work and @ School.

Individuals and families can run their own Dine with Heart @ Home fundraising activity. A dinner party, a good old Aussie BBQ, a Sunday brunch or high tea with delicious treats, anything goes!  Dine with Heart @ Work is an opportunity for colleagues to get together, over food. Your Dine with Heart @ Work event can be a bake sale, a cook-off, a lunchtime including fun and games, or even a Friday after work social!  Also, Dine with Heart @ School brings together teachers, students and the entire school through a bake sale, a multicultural food fair, or a competition to find the best $4 recipe.

Once you create your event page for Dine with Heart @ Home, @ Work or @ School, we will support you to make your event a success. You’ll receive regular communication from a member of the fundraising team including ideas, hints, tips and guidance. You will also receive an online promotional kit of materials and ideas.

There’s a whole range of activities you can do – ideally they are food related!  You can host a dinner party, organise a lunch, buy a round of coffees and cake, high tea or some other activity with family or friends as part of Dine with Heart @ Home fundraising.  Workplaces could hold a morning tea, casual day, Friday after work drinks or a fun lunchtime get together.  Schools can hold a bake-sale, BBQ, hot potato sale, food festival, ‘splash of red’ day or other activity.  It's ultimately up to you. Be as creative as you want to be!

Ideally, yes. But if that’s not possible then you can do it in April or June too. Just let the fundraising team know when you create your own event page.

Everything will be provided in the fundraising kit we have made available for you. This includes posters to help you promote your event and simple social media or emails content too. We provide all the support you need once you create your event page.

There are a number of ways you can do this, but one of the best ways is to ask your workplace to match your fundraising. Let us know if you need help with this. You can also ask people for donations in the lead up to the event as well as at the event itself. We can send you a donation tin if it would help too and suggest you have your donation page visible at the event so people can give online. You can also increase your fundraising by including other activities at your event, such as raffles, sweepstakes and guess the lolly jar games. There are more ideas like these included in the information we send out once you create your event page.

Once your event is all done, you'll find that there are a number of ways you can send your donations. You can pay via your fundraising page on the Dine with Heart @ Home, @ Work, or @School mycause page. Alternatively, you can send us a cheque or organise a direct payment into our bank account. Just get in touch and let us know what you would like to do.  Once you’ve registered for your event, we will send you information about all of these options and payment methods.

YES! We would love you to post details of your event on social media. Don't forget to use #dinewithheart and tag us using @sacredheartmission and @dinewithheart.

We would also love to talk to you about your event so we can promote it and you on our social media pages – please email your pictures to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
